Jock Paget wins Badminton on Clifton Promise

Jock Paget and Clifton Promise win Badminton as the competition goes right down to the wire.

In the end it wasn’t Michael Jung who foiled the Grand Slam Contenders, it was Jock Paget — a former bricklayer who won Badminton on his very first attempt. He is only the second rider after Mark Todd to win Badminton their first time out!

Paget finished on his dressage score of 39.7 penalty points. It must have been a nail biter for him as Clifton Promise was held at the vet check and had to be re-presented before he could ride in the final phase.

Jung’s victory seemed in hand until Sam pulled a rail on the very final fence, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. While Paget had a perfect round.

Andrew Nicholson was third on Nereo.

Here are the top three riders.
