According to John Lyons, a sense of humor and patience are the only two emotions that a rider should bring with them when they ride.
I had a trainer years ago who always told us that if we lost our temper or became impatient we had two choices: to dismount or go for a hack on the buckle.
It’s advice I still follow. Most of the time riding is a time of peace and concentration. I am able to set aside my worries or concerns and be in the moment. Most of the time my horses put a smile on my face that lasts for the rest of the day.
The days where I feel frustrated or irritated we go for a walk.
You had an excellent trainer:>
Really good advice.
