Horse vs. Gator

Visitors to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, South of Gainesville, FL, witnessed an unusual standoff between a wild horse and an alligator. The horse took offense at the gator’s proximity to the herd and demonstrated that, at least on dry land, hooves win.

  1. Do you know more about this herd – they aren’t wild, but who owns them or what are they doing there?

    1. Actually, from what I’ve read, they are considered to be wild. They are descendants of those brought to Florida by the Spanish, also called “Cracker Horses”. I think they are wild in the same way that the Chincoteague ponies are wild.
