On March 8th, 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta gave birth to her first foal. Sired by Bernardini, the 130 pound colt is a dark bay, just like his famous mother. Mare and foal are doing well. There’s some cute video of them together below and you can see more pictures and updates at Zenyatta.com.

Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year, gave birth to a colt today by Curlin (who was himself horse of the year in 2007 and 2008). The 125-pound colt bears a striking resemblance to his dam. Mare and foal are reported to be doing well!

On July 9th the breeding program for the endangered Przewalski‘s Horse at the Smithsonian Zoo celebrated a resounding success: a healthy foal.
