Oliver Townend won his 3rd straight Rolex today, taking home the top honor on Ballaghmor Class. He won Rolex in 2018 and 2019 2018 on Cooley Master Class, on whom he finished eighth today. Rolex was canceled last year. He is only the second rider in history (after Michael Jung) to win the event three times in a row.

The course was quite challenging, made even more so by the rain. As it was, both of Townend’s horses lost shoes on course, which meant he had to slow them down to keep them safe, thereby adding time faults to his cross country rounds.
Going into stadium jumping, the top horses were very close together, with even time faults having the potential of changing the standings. Ballaghmor Class is a horse that is known to drop a rail or two, so right until the end, tensions ran high. In the end it was Boyd Martin’s horse, On Cue, who dropped a rail, pushing him back to fourth place. Second and third went to the New Zealand couple Tim Price, riding Xavier Faer, and his wife, Jonelle Price, riding Grovine de Reve.
