Zenyatta wins the Apple Blossom on a hand ride

No surprises in the Apple Blossom stakes. Zenyatta made a text book run, starting at the back of the field then surging around the horses as they made the final turn.

Watching this mare start to accelerate is beautiful. What a stride! As she started her run the announcer said, “is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Zenyatta!” Somehow, very fitting.

Zenyatta is six this year and seems to be better than ever. The Apple Blossom was her 16th consecutive win (she is undefeated). Since 1948, only three other race horses have achieved this many consecutive wins: Citation, Cigar and Mister Frisky. Pretty good company! And having raked in nearly $6 million in earnings, she’s probably pushing the record books there, too.
