Don’t miss CANTER New England’s Showcase on October 23rd

Freedom on the Wind came from CANTER New England
My own horse, Freedom On The Wind, came from CANTER New England.

If you don’t already know about CANTER (The Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses), you should. In a landscape of “horse rescue” organizations with dubious pedigrees and murky financials, this is one of the good ones. There are affiliates now in 11 locations (Arizona, California, Colorado, Gulf South, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Mid-Atlantic, New England, Pennsylvania and Ohio).

This all volunteer organization helps transition racehorses to non-racing careers by helping match up prospective buyers with trainers and horses. Some CANTER affiliates also purchase horses at risk or accept horses from owners who want help finding them non-racing homes. In all cases CANTER offers people interested in purchasing an OTTB a tremendous resource in knowledge and experience.

Do I have a horse in this race? Absolutely! Freedom was donated to CANTER New England by his owners and he found his way to me as a foster horse.

This is the sixth year that CANTER NE has held an Annual Suffolk Showcase. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, October 23rd from 9 a.m. – noon at Suffolk downs.

What is the “Suffolk Showcase”?

The Suffolk Showcase presents a unique opportunity for those interested in buying a horse to view approximately 80 horses all in one place at one time on the backstretch of Suffolk Downs.

By attending Suffolk Showcase you will:

  • See the horses on the direct trainer listings in the flesh
  • Get a catalog of horses available for sale with information on the horse
  • Have the opportunity to speak with trainers or owners directly
  • Be able to visit the horses in their barns
  • Have fun viewing several amazing Thoroughbreds ready for their next career!

CANTER volunteers will be available to assist buyers throughout the day. For more information please contact volunteer Jennifer at canterne.events@gmail.com or 617-207-1238

Directions to Suffolk Downs can be found on their website here: http://www.suffolkdowns.com/directions.html. Download a Flyer to post at your barn about the Showcase. The sad part is that all of these wonderful horses need homes, so bring your friends.
