It was a definitive win that should quiet his detractors. Unfortunately, it was also his last race — he now retiring to stud. It’s actually pretty surprising that he wasn’t retired directly after winning the Triple Crown, but it’s pretty cool that he won the Breeders Cup in such style.

American Pharoah has now won 9 out of his 11 starts and earned $8,650,300 for his owner Ahmed Zayat.

Although the Breeders Cup Classic was the headline race for the day, one of the most exciting races was an upset in The Breeders Cup Turf, where Found, a three year old filly, upset the favorite, Golden Horn, in a battle down the stretch. Golden Horn was aiming to be the first horse to win the Epsom Derby, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Breeders’ Cup Turf in the same year.  Check out the “rabbit run” by Shining Copper, too. At times he was so far ahead of the pack he looked like he was in a different race!
