Zelda loves Curly. Except when she’s hungry. The two mares are fed outside. Early on in their relationship, Zelda made it very, very clear that she eats first. Over time, Zelda has learned to share her hay (and there is always lots of it). But she is relentless when it comes to her grain.

I feel sorry for Curly because she gets only a small amount of grain. Then she stands and watches Zelda finish her meal (from a safe distance). Curly knows her place. After that, they go back to being BFFs.

And that’s why I won’t ever feed Zelda and Freedom together. Two horses that are very protective of their food do not mix!
