Tim and Jonelle Price share the Podium at Pau 5*

Tim Price and Falco

Tim and Jonelle Price proved again that they are the power couple of eventing, finishing first and third at the Pau 5*. This is the second time this year that the couple were on the podium at a 5* event this year, having finished second and third at Kentucky.

You wouldn’t know that this was Falco’s debut at the 5* level.

Tim rode Falco in the gelding’s debut at this level. The pair held onto the lead they established in dressage, adding just 0.4 to their score by finishing one second over the time on cross country. Stadium jumping was tough, only five of the 35 starters – completed the final phase double clear, which changed up standings dramatically and gave Tim a (not used) rail in hand.

“He’s a great little horse,” says Tim. “You never expect this on a first time coming to this sort of level, but he’s a class horse and he always has been, even when he’s been learning his craft. He’s come here very well prepared, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the way he’s delivered through the three phases.”

Second place went to Tom McEwan and CHF Cooliser, another horse in her first 5*. In 20th place after dressage, they moved up to 7th place after cross country. Their double clear jumping round put them on the podium.
Jonelle Price on McClaren finished in third. Their score was the same as Tom and Cooliser, but he edged ahead as he was closer to the cross-country optimum time.

While I haven’t been able to find any of the winning rounds on video, I did find a thrills and spills video that shows you some of the cross country jumps.
