Jockey Calvin Borel had a pretty good weekend. Imagine riding the winning horse in both the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby? He is the first jockey to win the Derby weekend doubleheader since 1993 and I believe only the seventh jockey ever to achieve to win both races back to back.
After watching him win the Kentucky Derby yesterday on Mine That Bird, I watched the replay of his victory in the Kentucky Oaks. Rachel Alexandra is an extraordinary filly. I can see why many people thought she should run in the Derby. She just smoked the field, winning by 20 lengths while under hold. As one commentator wrote about an early victory, in the Fantasy, it was a “paid workout” for the filly.
What a great weekend for horse racing.

I was too scared to watch the Derby yesterday — I wanted to know that there were no broken horses. So today I came looking for vids, and I knew you would provide! 🙂
Glad I was on top of it! I’ve been posting videos on my YouTube account as well — more than are here: http://www.youtube.com/user/equineproductsreview. Enjoy!
WOW. I couldn’t believe he was holding her back the whole time. That filly was ready to run the whole dang thing all over again. Amazing. Thanks!
