Helmet cams aren’t just for cross country anymore. John Anderson donned one for his recent round at Spruce Meadows in the $175,000 2011 Nexen Derby on Terrific.

Anderson finished in 16th place with 26 faults.

The Spruce Meadows Derby is kind of a cross between stadium jumping and cross country.   You can see why it’s called the best show jumping venue in the world. It’s a grueling, long course with some very challenging jumps. I’ve never seen the whole course before and this view gives you some real insight into how tough it is (for both horse and rider).

Perhaps the trickiest fence out there is The Devils Dyke — a three-fence obstacle that involves going down and up a ditch, also known as a grob. But there are several others that certainly made me look twice.

This year’s winner was Leslie Howard riding Lennox Lewis 2 (Lenny).
