Born with no legs, Dr. Angelika Trabert is now a medal-winning Paralympian – and an anaesthetist. Her motto is “it’s ability, not disability, that counts”. Angela has competed in Para-Equestrian dressage for 27 years and came into Tryon after a three year break from competition. She came in fourth in Tyron, but she has impressed and humbled me with her focus, her ability and her talent.
If I sit on a horse and if the horse understands me, I’m just free. I’m free in a way that I can never be while I sit in a wheelchair or with artificial legs.
I am in awe of her ability, and of all the Para-equestrian athletes who competed at Tryon.
