Never Forget

Drawing by Charlie Mackesy

On 9/11 I was in the barn listening to the news on the radio. At first, I thought it must have been a small plane that had gone off course. Before 9/11, I can remember flying over the city on the commuter flights, so low that you could practically look into the high rise buildings.

By the time I went to get coffee, it was obvious that this was a terrorists attack. Watching it unfold was terrifying. And yes, I knew someone who died and two people who should have been in their offices at the World Trade Center that day, who weren’t.

This illustration by Charlie Mackesy captures the emotions of the day for me. Never forget.

  1. I was at work. I turned on my computer and saw the picture of the first tower smoking…and thought, what is this, an ad for a Tom Clancy movie? Sad to say, no, it was ugly reality. I couldn’t stand it. I had to take a day off and go home, just to watch, even though I couldn’t bear to.
Now I put my flag out on 11 Sep. So does my neighbor. But not many others do.
I won’t forget, nor can I forgive. We didn’t have it coming. It’s changed the world.
