Celebrating the Day of the Horse

Dudley

December 13th is the National Day of the Horse where people are encouraged to be mindful of the contribution of horses to the economy, history, and character of the United States.

Kronefurst
Kronefurst (Kroni) was my second horse. I owned him for 13 years.

Let me count the ways that my horses have added to my life (if not to my pocketbook).

They make me smile.

They give me wings.

They teach me patience, confidence and humility.

They are my partners in so many adventures.

They make my heart sing when I see them.

They listen to my troubles and complaints without judging.

They are FUN.

Bogie
Bogie was the first horse that I owned.

I’m so lucky to have been blessed with such wonderful horses. Although I didn’t get my “own” (leased) horse until my early 20s (Dudley, the horse in the top pic), and my very own horse until I was 33 (Bogie), I’ve also had the pleasure of sharing my life with Kroni, Dezi, Freedom and Zelda. That’s a pretty splendid
