Lot’s of people think their horses are smart. Certainly, I have one who can open just about any kind of latch in the time it takes you to turn your back. That may be more self-serving than smart!
But, what about those horses that can count, answer questions, and perform other “tricks”? When I started to look into the history of horses such as Beautiful Jim Key and Clever Hans, I found that someone else had already written an article and done it well.
