Ever want to know what it’s like to ride at Rolex? Peter Atkins, an advanced event rider has been wearing a helmet cam and posting the videos on YouTube. The most recent one features his Rolex ride on HJ Hampton.
It’s a lot of fun to see the jumps from this perspective (I’ll never jump anything that big or scary on my own) and also to listen to him encourage his horses along the way. There’s lots of praise and his horse looks just as enthusiastic as he sounds.
I really enjoyed watching his Rolex XC round on the live feed. Atkins rides his horse on a loose rein and lets the horse figure out a lot of this on his own. I’m always struggling with this level of trust; I want to package my horse and control the approach to each fence. What an eye opener to see a rider with such an amazing partnership with his horse. I’m going to have to rethink my control issues.
Here’s some video from the spectators’ perspective so you can see how relaxed the team looks as they gallop along.
What a super idea. Peter and Henry did a fantastic job for all the world to see. Congrats!!!!
Wow. I was holding my breath. I realized with the sound on, the way the wind was catching in the mic translated how big and even the Henny’s strides were. It was like feeling it. 🙂 Very very cool!
