Horses that aren't wearing halters get sold in groups, making them more likely to be sold for slaughter.

If you’re like me, you have plenty of old halters lying around. Now here’s a worthwhile cause that will not only take them off their hands but might actually save a horse’s life.

Horses that come into the Unadilla auction without halters are run through in groups and bought by the kill buyers. If a horse has a halter they are lead through individually. Dawn Robyn of Rosemary Farm Sanctuary puts halters on horses that are without to give them a fighting chance of being sold to private owners.
