Caroline Powell and her 17-year old gray gelding Lenamore hung onto the lead after cross country, putting in a clear round to win Burghley on their dressage score! This is a team that made the **** course look easy.
Lenamore was one of several “older” horses competing at Burghley. He’s got an impressive competition record, having completed nine major three-day events including the 2008 Olympics. In an interview with the Telegraph, Powell explained that at this point in his career they stick with the venues that they know Lenamore likes (Badminton, Burghley and Gatcombe) and will wait for him to tell them he’s had enough. It’s a real inspiration to see an older horse who seems to have gotten better with age!
Listen to an interview with Caroline to learn more about her partnership with Lenamore.
And here are the highlights from show jumping. I’m not sure how long Burghley TV will have the rides available so make sure you check them out soon.
William Fox-Pitt and Seacookie were second and last year’s winners Oliver Townend and Carousel Quest were third.
