This past weekend we had extraordinary weather for January. On Saturday it was almost 60 degrees! When I came to ride Freedom he was napping in the sun, his friend Willow standing guard.
I almost felt guilty about asking him to get up. Almost.

It’s spooky: middle of January, and it was nearly 70 degrees every day this week. Many horses are already starting to shed. It feels like spring. Granted, we’re always going to be warmer than New England, but sheesh. The 40 degree temp swings make me anxious for the horses…
It’s been an uncharacteristically warm winter here so far too. We did swing rather suddenly from 65 to 20 degrees the week before. I just blanketed, mashed and watched the horses carefully for any problem.
