Here’s some more footage from the cross country challenge yesterday at Badminton. Those are, indeed, old style xc fences with the added safety of frangible pins. Interesting to see the pin break — definitely increases the safety of the jumps.

Thank you for the links to those videos. I did not know of frangible pins. I am relieved to know something like that exists and is in use and apparently is making things safer. Those huge logs (trees on their side) scare me–so solid. But I don’t have to jump it/them so it’s okay. I remember when I was a teen I would jump judge for a huge regional event near Chicago. When we’d walk the course the fences looked so imposing. When an actual horse and rider were galloping and jumping the fences, they made it look so easy. I remember seeing some of them trot fences too (and they weren’t teeny tiny). Such a cool sport.
