A Better Use for Old Horse Shoes

I asked my farrier what she did with old horse shoes — just discarded them, she said. But there’s someone who has made use of a lot of old horse shoes in a very unusual way! Donald Punton, a retired joiner and carpenter from Cumbria, England, has been crafting sculptures of horses from discarded shoes.

According to an article in Horse and Hound, Punton’s love of horses was rooted in his childhood when he worked with Shire horses on the land near his home.

He’s made several sculptures, including one of a Shire horse, a rocking horse and a black horse rearing. The sculptures are now for sale as Mr. Punton and his wife are moving. Wouldn’t it be nice to have one in your garden?
