Although it’s hard to believe, it is now 2014! I wish I could say that I have resolutions ready, but I’ve been sick for the past 10 days and mostly my wish is to feel better! It’s amazing how you take your health for granted, until you don’t have it. A trip to the Doctor yesterday revealed that I haven’t just been suffering with lingering effects of the flu; nope, I have pneumonia. No wonder I’ve felt so ill!
The weather hasn’t been conducive to riding, so I haven’t missed much. After the lovely layer of snow, we had cold weather, then torrential rain and more freezing. Right now the paddocks look more like skating rinks than anything else.
The horses are remarkably good about picking their way over the ice. Our horses are out 24/7 regardless. I think because they are out so much, they don’t feel compelled to be stupid. They are also all barefoot right now, so that have some natural traction.
I did ride once this past week and, until I started coughing, it was great to be out. Freedom appreciated it too. He gets very cranky when he’s not ridden. We have 12-18 inches of snow forecast for Thursday and Friday so maybe the good riding weather will be back, just as my antibiotics have kicked in and made me feel better!
Do you make riding New Year’s resolutions? If so, please share. Maybe you’ll inspire me to add a few to my list!
